What does your standard training week involve?
Approximately 25-30 hours โ€“ 25km swim, 300km bike and 90km run.

Where is your favourite place to train?
At home! A little kingdom called Oberschwaben.

What is your favourite 2XU garment? When do you use it and why?
E:1 - my favourite wetsuit. I won the Worlds with it!

What is your favourite training accessory?
Fins and paddles, like Flipper!

What has been the toughest experience in your career and what did you learn from it?
Missing the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens due to illness. From this experience, I learned to always listen to your bodyโ€™s signals.

Whatโ€™s the most common training mistake you see on the circuit? Any suggestions on how to avoid it?
Training too often at a high intensity level. Train smart.

What motivates you to train and race harder?
My family! My little sun Toni and my wife Tina inspire and motivate me to train every day. At the end of the day, I want be successful not just for me, but for them.

Describe your diet/meal plan leading up to a big race:
I avoid eating things I donโ€™t know and, of course, start carbo loading.

How do you balance your training and racing life with life outside the sport?
I have a sporting life and a family life. Itยดs easy for me to separate the two.

What type of nutritional supplement do you find most helpful (either for training or competition)?
Ultra Sports Buffer and Refresher.

Best and worst thing about being a professional athlete:
As a professional athlete I can realise my dreams. As a young boy I was crazy for sports, and now I'm getting paid to do it full time. It's an amazing time of my life -travelling, meeting lots of different people, having successful and non successful days in a very high intensity. Worst thing: being away from my little family for weeks on end.

In five years time, I'll be:
A 37 old man studying, playing with his kids and telling stories about the good old Triathlon-times!
