CAMERON BROWN
Ironman Triathlete
What does your standard training week involve?
Swim 5 x (20-25km), ride 6 x (550-700km) and run x 7 (100-120km).
Where is your favourite place to train?
Southern France. Spent 3 years there riding some amazing climbs and even some Tour de France routes.
What is your favourite 2XU garment? When do you use it and why?
The X:C1 Cycle Jacket. It has been a must-have through the NZ winter. Keeps me dry, warm and protected from the wind chill!
What is your favourite training accessory?
As previous!
What has been the toughest experience in your career and what did you learn from it?
The 2007 NZ Ironman. I was sick in bed for 3 days leading to the race and thought my title hopes were all gone. I went and had a feed of McDonalds the day before and starting coming right only a few hours before the race. I just beat Aussie Luke Bell by less than 2mins to claim my 6th victory and was in the medical tent for a few hours after the race.
What motivates you to train and race harder?
Trying to win my 10th ironman New Zealand title and getting on the podium in Hawaii.
Describe your diet/meal plan leading up to a big race:
I try not to change many things in race week - just balance in everything. But I never miss having my mumโs salmon pasta! Its been a race winner many times over.
How do you balance your training and racing life with life outside the sport?
I have two wonderful children, so once training is finished itโs being a Dad for the rest of the day, which keeps me pretty busy!
What type of nutritional supplement do you find most helpful (either for training or competition)?
After every hard session I take a bottle of Balance Ultimate recovery stack, which has everything in it to help me recover faster - protein, carbohydrates, creatine, vitamins and minerals.
In five years time, I'll be:
Maybe still racing on the circuit in the vets category!
